An official launch of the University Centre of Tomas Bata University in Zlín took place on 17 June 2008. The modern building designed by a world-renowned architect and a Zlín native, Prof. Eva Jiřičná, has become the new seat of the University. The University Centre was built in an attractive locality in the centre of the regional capital within 18 months.
The new building of the University Centre comprises two independent parts joined by a roofed over atrium. In the southern part of the building there is the University Library that offers services to its users using the latest information and communication technologies from September 2008. In the northern part of the building the University gained dignified spaces for a number of its Rectorate workplaces (offices, conference rooms). In addition to that, there is a lecture hall intended for 160 persons, a spacious cloakroom and a bar in the building. The premises are wheelchair accessible.
After completing the construction of the premises of the Congress and University Centre Zlín will gain an exceptional building that will enrich the original functionalist architecture of the town without violating its uniqueness. The Congress Centre will have a social and cultural role, while the University Centre will have an educational and informative role. The two buildings are interconnected by a two-storey underground car park with 150 parking spaces.
